Peter Gabriel : Pop star or new Bill Gates ?

Peter Gabriel is one on the most important artist of the century, but he has had also a long involvement with technology : He co-founded Syco Systems, wich developed one of the world's first purpose-built digital audio workstations. Real World Multi Media, part of Peter's Real World Group, won awards for both technological and creative innovation. More recently, he has had success with OD2 (On Demand Distribution), now the leading European platform provider for the distribution of on-line music.
And this days Solid State Logic, a high end company that design and manufacture mixing consoles, have been acquired by a joint venture established by him and broadcast industry entrepreneur, David Engelke.
So Peter Gabriel lead now all the chain production in actual musical market : from creation to distribution.
Is it bad or good ?

Mod pedals yourselfs

Guitar pedals can be usefull in electronic music, but to add more personnality the best way is to mod them. The folks at IndyGuitarist.com and Guitartone.net have written a book that details just how you can modify your own pedals, and it includes the details to modify many of your favorite pedals. The book is available as a paperback (Wire-O bound) book for $49.95, or as an ebook delivered via download. The ebook versions also includes video clips on how to solder and desolder components.

Kraftwerk last album

The originator of actual electronic music have released on june 2005 their last (but first officially sanctioned live) album : Minimum-Maximum is a collection of performances recorded in the last couple years, sequenced to closely reflect the set Kraftwerk are currently touring. It comes as double CD, double DVD, multichannel SACD and 4LP !

Synth of the week : Korg X-911 "guitar synth"

This one come from my private collection and is a very unique piece.
At first sight it looks like an ARP or like an little TR-808; in fact this is half an effects box and half preset synth. On the left there is the cheezy preset "from electric bass" to "trumpet" and on the right you have the synth part with pulse,square, saw waves, Attack Decay Attack envelope and for the filter just Attack & Decay. You can trigger by and processes external signals with cool distortion and funky synthe Wah. It has external FM input, VCF freq. mod input, Cv/Hz in's/outs, Trig in/outs.
In sum the sound is very punchy (same filter than a MS-20!!), funky or cheezy.
I bought it 230€ and never regret that.
